     Dessa F. Barnhart was born on Saturday, December 2, 1905 in Mallory Township, Clayton County, Iowa, daughter of George B. Barnhart and Grace O. Borrett.1,2

According to the US census of April 20, 1910, Dessa was living at home with her parents in Mallory Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She was four years old.2

She was still living at home with her parents in Mallory Township in 1920. According to the census which was taken January 13, 1920, she was 14 years old, single and attending school.1

At age 18, Dessa married Martin R. Friedlein on Tuesday, June 24, 1924.4

Dessa appeared on the Millville Township, Clayton County, Iowa, US census of May 3, 1930 living with her husband, Martin. She was 24 years old. They were renting their farm. The family did not own a radio set.Two children were listed; Charles age five and Gloria age ten months.5

Dessa was 67 years old when her father, George, died on December 14, 1972.4

About 1984, Dessa lived in Colesburg, Delaware County, Iowa.4
